<div><br/><br/>Internet marketing is an extremely competitive field today and many people who were once quite successful in the field have started moving away from it due to the amount of competition. Even though it is a career that is harder to get into and harder to become successful in quickly, there are still some Internet marketing methods that can provide a person with a lot of success if done properly and what I am referring to is niche marketing.<br/><br/>Niche marketing differs from general online methods in a variety of different ways. General methods often includes marketing to the masses or includes several products or services in one campaign. With niche marketing however, a person is marketing one product or service, which is known as the niche and they are marketing it to the demographic of people who are the most likely to use their services or buy their product. Here are some of the advantages of niche marketing:<br/><br/> It saves money because the marketer or company is only targeting the people who are the most likely to buy the products or use the services. Even though the search engine marketing campaign or online marketing efforts will reach less people than it would with general marketing, the conversion rate is going to be higher. Less time is wasted when only a specific demographic of Internet users are targeted. It is less confusing to the Internet user when you are only marketing one product, idea or service since it will be very obvious what you are trying to sell or offer. A lot of times with niche marketing, an online marketer can set up PPC ads for a lot cheaper than they could with a broad marketing campaign because less common keywords are used and there are plenty of niches that are not competitive online. <br/><br/>With more people trying to get into Internet marketing and making money online, having a marketing strategy is a very important element of the overall plan. <div><br/><br/>Niche Marketing<br/><br/>The term niche marketing means different things to different people.<br/><br/>Generally it is known to mean the developing of websites in sub mainstream market segments to profit from selling products, generating advertising revenue or other forms of website monetization.<br/><br/>Niche marketing is effective because it allows you to operate in markets that are less competitive meaning you have the potential as a new or seasoned marketer to capitalize on big opportunities with relative ease and far less cost.<br/><br/>Particularly for new marketers, niche marketing can be the key to riches because it allows you to compete on a level playing field. You don&#8217;t have to jump into the ring with the heavy weights, you can develop your skills in the junior divisions before moving into the big leagues.<br/><br/>If you pick the right niche you can build your site, establish yourself as an expert, sell your own products, recommend other people&#8217;s products, the opportunities can be endless and good money can certainly be made.<br/><br/>The trouble is that as niche marketing grows in popularity, many of the markets we called niche markets are now not so niche at all, they&#8217;re almost as bad as mainstream markets in terms of their competitiveness and difficulty to profit from.<br/><br/>The markets that spring to mind are things like acne, dog training, or anxiety. Markets like these, while they can still be profitable will not make the average web marketer alot of money at all. Even the more niche versions, acne treatments, dog training videos or anxiety relief are difficult for most people to compete in and make money.<br/><br/>Then there&#8217;s the other extreme. You can go to the tiny tiny niches that get almost no search volume. You can find &#8220;long tail&#8221; keywords like &#8216;pug training schools in atlanta&#8221; or &#8220;acne treatments that work in 2 days&#8221;. The problem with these are, 1. that they often don&#8217;t get enough traffic and 2. they are so specific that even if you can drive traffic, there isn&#8217;t much you can do to serve those people except show them ads. Again this can be profitable if you know how to do it but it seems like there just has to be an easier way&#8230;<br/><br/>The niche marketers that really make the most money are those that know how to find the perfect balance between competition and search volume. Not only that but they know how to analyze the nature of a niche market to determine how much potential it really has before they enter it.<br/><br/>By doing this they find markets that can make them big money very quickly, faster than most people think possible.<br/><br/>Then when they do find markets they know how to make sites that will capitalize on them as effectively and efficiently as soon as possible. The result? Your challenge now is to survive that 1st year.<br/><br/>Hopefully you&#8217;re reading this early on in your endeavors, <br />and can make the adjustments necessary to keep your <br />enterprise afloat and your bank account buoyant. Here are <br />several things the &#8220;gurus&#8221; neglected to mention along the <br />way to building your own internet marketing empire!<br/><br/>1 - Who are you listening to? There are a lot of people <br />who&#8217;ve made a lot of money, and they&#8217;re all too eager to <br />tell you about it, frequently in the form of their latest <br />product. It&#8217;s very easy to find yourself tuning in too many <br />voices, instead of riding one horse till it either gets you <br />there or is spent. Find a niche that interests you, find <br />products that are either yours or through an affiliate <br />program, and focus entirely on your plan, not allowing <br />yourself to chase rabbits.<br/><br/>2 - What is certain! And that is that the real money to be <br />made in internet marketing is produced in the following <br />ways: owning your own site(s), your own products, your own <br />opt-in mailing list, and your own vision! Think about it! <br />Not one of the internet millionaires to whom we look to for <br />advice has lacked any of these for very long. You bought <br />their products off their sites, joined their mailing lists, <br />and to one degree or another shared their vision. If you <br />haven&#8217;t already, begin immediately to build your own empire. <br />Build a site, start learning about traffic, linking, opt-in <br />lists and all the other essentials necessary for long-term <br />success. Affiliate marketing will only take you so far. In <br />fact, most of the top affiliates have several of their own <br />products!<br/><br/>3 - The learning curve. There is a certain amount of <br />information you simply have to either learn (or pay for). <br />Don&#8217;t discount the fact that this will take a little time. <br />One doesn&#8217;t discover how to build and market a fully- <br />optimized web site in a month. Or three! This is; and <br />because of the fluid nature of the web; always will be a <br />work-in-progress. Do what you can do every day and come back <br />tomorrow for more. Don&#8217;t be discouraged when the money takes <br />a while to appear; if you do this right, when it does show <br />up it will be worth the wait!<br/><br/>4 - A support system. Get one. Don&#8217;t plan on supporting <br />yourself from your business right away. It took the best at <br />the very least several months to start seeing any real <br />money. Don&#8217;t despair if you turn out to be mortal, too. Unlike other forms of marketing which tend to focus on the entire market niche marketing centers around one particular market segment. This focus on a particular market segment enables you to address the unique requirements of that target group. For example, an online business, which caters to men&#8217;s leather goods, wants to also target working women.<br/><br/>As it is with men, they too prefer the ease of shopping online but in their case, they would like more content as they are then able to make a more comprehensive evaluation of the products and the company which markets them. The Web marketer needs to alter the way of communicating by way of expanding its site along with revising its marketing campaign in order to successfully generate more sales from the new niche.<br/><br/>3) Always Test-market.<br/><br/>Prior to taking your next step, perform an assessment of your direct competitors that you&#8217;ll encounter in your latest market niche. Remember this phrase, &#8220;Do not try to be all things to all people.&#8221; You should focus on one or two target markets and then build a business plan focused on reaching these targeted markets.<br/><br/>Find a niche that suits your interest and expertise. Remember that you need to be seen by your target market to effectively market to them. A great way of gaining visibility within your target market is to host or lead seminars directed only to this group as well as speak at their conventions and meetings. If you work with widely diverse clientele, it will be extremely to nearly impossible to develop focus, leverage time and energy or maintain education efforts necessary to providing outstanding service.<br/><br/>How to Develop Focus<br/><br/>What should you do if you currently do not have a target market or niche? First of all, try to pinpoint the type of client you most want to work with. What are their traits and characteristics? In identifying a niche, you want to make sure the prospect in that niche share a common perspective and have similar problems. If they do not, it will be very difficult to market to them-no matter how narrow it is. Within your target market niche you must identify an &#8220;ideal client profile.&#8221;<br/><br/>The better a job you do at developing your &#8220;ideal client profile,&#8221; the easier it will be to focus your energies on your top priority market niche. In thinking about your ideal client profile, don&#8217;t just consider how much each client can help you earn. Also, consider quality of life. Before focusing in on just one or two groups, make sure you will enjoy servicing these individuals. If you find it difficult to turn any prospect away, realize that you may pay a heavy price by trying to work with every prospect who calls you or shows up at your office. For example, if you are marketing to your entire community with no particular target market, you could spend an enormous amount of time and money and receive a small payoff for all of that effort. An unfocused mass marketing campaign is never a good idea. Narrow down these individuals and leverage your time and energy effectively<br/><br/>Leveraging Your Time<br/><br/>There are a limited number of hours that we can work each day and each week. Once you&#8217;ve identified a profitable market that you can service extremely well, you can focus on it, and more importantly, leverage your time. Focus on becoming an expert in the subjects of greatest interest to your target group. If you leverage your time, you will be able to penetrate your market accurately and quickly. Remember, the more you work with your target group, the more you will understand their needs and be perceived as an expert.	For all of these reasons, leverage your time and energy by selecting a niche and work to become known as an expert in it. The first step in providing outstanding service to a niche group is to educate yourself on your target group&#8217;s needs and challenges as well as the obstacles they face.<br/><br/>The Power of Continuing Education<br/><br/>No matter what group you market to, you must continue to educate yourself on your target groups particular needs, challenges and solutions available to them. Do not assume that information you acquired a year or two ago will suffice to keep you on the &#8220;cutting edge&#8221; of professionals servicing this group. Read books and magazines that cover topics of interest to your target market and take specialized courses in relevant areas if necessary. Be familiar with all products and services that you will need to offer in order to satisfy the needs of your target market. You will become known inside this community as someone who really understands their issues because you do. Working with only one target market will allow you to become extremely proficient in servicing that market in addressing their various challenges.<br/><br/>Remember that niche or target marketing is effective because people tend to feel more comfortable dealing with someone who has a great deal of experience in their specific area of need. By positioning yourself as an expert who caters to the needs of this target or niche group, you willfind it easier to get referrals as most people are more comfortable making a referral to an expert rather than a generalist. <div><br/><br/>Most businesses these days have to do some sort of Internet niche marketing if they want to keep their head above water. If you are small-business owner like me, chances are you have had to learn some niche marketing strategies in order to survive, perhaps even begrudgingly. I know myself, I would rather be focusing on learning more about my craft and my business itself, not the ins and outs of niche marketing. Yet niche marketing has brought me a greater appreciation for my customers and their needs. In fact, I even enjoy it now.<br/><br/>In this article I will share with you general approaches for one of the most viable free traffic sources on the Internet: Craig&#8217;s List.<br/><br/>The big &#8220;Internet gurus&#8221; are just finally getting around to noticing this incredible source of free traffic. Yes, Craig&#8217;s list is a Goldmine of marketing opportunities awaiting you if approached correctly. If approached blindly however, you can waste a lot of time and not see any reward.<br/><br/>I live in San Francisco. As such, I have seen Craig&#8217;s List grow from a very small list into a worldwide phenomena. In fact, I have spoken with Craig many times (yes there is a real guy named Craig). To some people the Craig&#8217;s List web site might look a little complicated. Do this right now, open up another browser window and I will walk you through a few areas of the web site, highlighting the potential free niche marketing options.<br/><br/>* Community *<br/><br/>In the upper left-hand corner is this box. Listed as subheadings are &#8220;activities&#8221;, &#8220;artists&#8221;, &#8220;general&#8221;, &#8220;pets&#8221;, and others.<br/><br/>The &#8220;General&#8221; category is an excellent place for any kind of free report or other free promotional activity. Really, anything goes in this category. Having said that, you do not want to post anything in here that mentions a fee or even has prominently displayed fee based services on your landing page. If you do, it will likely get flagged, quickly.<br/><br/>However you can market your free newsletters, free reports, free tele-classes. If you have a niche product that corresponds to one of the subheadings, all the better. For instance if you are promoting a book on dog training, the &#8221; pets&#8221; category here could be a gold mine.<br/><br/>* Personals *<br/><br/>You may think &#8220;personals&#8221; is a total waste of time unless you are looking for a date, however, the &#8220;missed connections&#8221;, &#8220;rants and raves&#8221; and &#8220;miscellaneous romance&#8221; could be a viable place for marketing a free newsletter or free products or relationship tools or similar things. Again, be careful with fee-based products. The Craig&#8217;s list community will flag them very quickly.<br/><br/>* Discussion forums *<br/><br/>It speaks for itself. In general, these are focused discussions on an array of topics. Currently there are 72 discussion forums active. The discussions are worldwide, existing on every Craig&#8217;s list. Personally, I have not spent much time here, but I bet you could have great success if you found an appropriate niche. These are real-time discussions. (Hmm, I have to try this myself)<br/><br/>* For Sale *<br/><br/>Yes, For Sale. How have you overlooked this before? These are free classified ads going out to thousands and thousands of people interested in what you are selling in every major city in the world. These are focused niche categories. There are many ways to promote products. For instance, there is a &#8220;computer&#8221; category. Presumably, those that click on this category will be looking to buy a computer or computer related products. What if you wrote an e-book on how to maintain your computer? Sell it here. &#8220;Registry Cleaner Affiliate&#8221;, sell it here. There are categories like &#8220;sports&#8221;, &#8221; musical instruments&#8221;, &#8220;motorcycles&#8221;, &#8220;general&#8221;. Check this out. It is a real goldmine. I still promote FREE stuff here, with the &#8220;For Sale&#8221; items at the landing page.<br/><br/>* Services *<br/><br/>&#8220;Services&#8221; is where independent businesses can place free ads. Niches include, &#8220;financial&#8221;, &#8220;legal&#8221;, &#8220;therapeutic&#8221;. This is also a category where you can flat out promote your services. And it is all free.<br/><br/>How to Leverage the Power of Craig&#8217;s List.<br/><br/>Craig&#8217;s list is operational in hundreds of cities all over the world now. This gives the opportunity to put free ads in front of thousands and thousands of people every day, focused and targeted toward your niche. However, who has the time to post hundreds of advertisements? I certainly do not. And, one thing about the Craig&#8217;s list niche marketing strategy - you must post a lot of ads and rotate them regularly.<br/><br/>This is not easy as Craig&#8217;s list has duplication flag that will not allow you to post the same message in more than one location or at one time. So, the way around this is to write several different ads. Just change the wording; it is simple. Yet, it takes time. You only have to do it once. It is time well spent.<br/><br/>What I do is write several different ads/postings for different categories.<br/><br/>For example: <br />I have &#8220;Free Stuff&#8221; Ads for the Community and other non-sales areas. I have several free reports and several e-mail newsletters. So, I have four or five different versions of each &#8220;Free Stuff&#8221; Ad.<br/><br/>I have &#8220;Paid Products and Services&#8221; Ads For the Sale and Services Sections. I also have four or five different versions of several paid products that I list in the &#8220;For Sale&#8221; and &#8220;Services&#8221; section. Part of my business is in the therapeutic section.<br/><br/>Every day I have at least 15 to 20 Craig&#8217;s list ads targeting specific niches. I generally post in the most populated and active communities. I rotate the ads so as to not set off the duplicate content filters.<br/><br/>Niche Marketing to Craig&#8217;s list can be very profitable if it is done correctly. It can also be very time-consuming. It is the type of job you should outsource. Also it takes a while to know exactly how to approach each of these different subgenres.<br/><br/>As someone who has grown up in the Craig&#8217;s list community, I have seen the ins and outs of of it for years (since 1997 to be precise) and realize its quirky nature. All of this effort will do no good if your postings get flagged by the community or if your delivery and approach is wrong. You have to be ever vigilant of both when and where to post sales ads and free stuff. You must have specific strategies relative to landing pages. You must have a certain conversational nature to your advances, etc.<br/><br/>Niche marketing to Craig&#8217;s list can be an absolute gold mine if done correctly. Your expertise becomes anything related to real estate, whether it be listing homes, selling homes, or maybe even doing a home loan. Your real estate career gets even more clouded as you get involved with the different types of real estate from condos, homes, land, multi-units or maybe even stretching to commercial. Performing this many real estate tasks is a juggling act that very few agents ever survive.<br/><br/>In order to close business every month, have a life, and experience the big rewards it becomes necessary to specialize in a in a niche of real estate. Before we can examine the benefits of specialization let&#8217;s examine the fears that many people have about selecting a niche:<br/><br/> I will lose business by specializing There aren&#8217;t enough transactions for me to specialize I don&#8217;t know enough about anything in real estate to specialize <br/><br/>These are all common fears to experience before selecting a niche to specialize in and dominate. As you are considering your niche, I invite you to consider the following question:<br/><br/>If you had a possibly fatal heart condition and you were looking for a Doctor to help you, which Doctor would you select?<br/><br/>A) The Doctor who is a Podiatrist, Pediatrician, and a Cardiologist<br/><br/>Or<br/><br/>B) The best Cardiologist in your state<br/><br/>For most they would select &#8220;B&#8221; because that Doctor would have handled more conditions than the &#8220;A&#8221; Doctor. She would have the experience, have run into more problems, have solved more cases and would have to be the absolute best in order to make a living in just one area of medicine.<br/><br/>So, by selecting a niche are you turning away business or are you inviting more of your niche than you ever could imagine?<br/><br/>Selecting your real estate marketing niche will bring you a flood of business for that niche. In order to demonstrate your expertise in a particular area, it doesn&#8217;t take shouting from the treetops that you are the &#8220;expert&#8221;. Here are some methods that you can do to demonstrate your expertise in a niche and start bringing in more of the business:<br/><br/> Write articles - Write articles about the type of real estate product that you have a passion for. For example if your passion is condos write articles about home owners associations, selecting a community, and even choosing the right floor plan. Contribute on forums - There are often community forums where local residents bring up questions about communities or their local city. Participate in these forums (without directly asking for business) and answer questions. Attend community events- This can range from attending a local board meeting of home owners to having a small booth at a farmers market. Wherever you attend make sure it is complimentary to your niche. <br/><br/>There are many different ways to share your expertise in order to bring in more business. The first big step is just committing yourself to real estate marketing in the niche where you have the most passion.
